Kazincbarcikai
Puskás Akadémia enters the new season slightly weakened in midfield quality. They sold Levi who contributed 11 goals last season to direct rivals Ferencváros, and also parted ways with Plšek, who added 7 goals. The replacements brought in do not quite match the quality of those who left, but the core of the team remains intact.
Despite finishing second last season, Puskás Akadémia had the best home record in the league, collecting four more points at home than Ferencváros. That strong form earned them a place in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.
For their opponents, Kazincbarcikai, this match marks a historic moment. Founded in 1957, the club spent 68 seasons in the lower divisions and is now making its debut in Hungary’s top flight. It’s a major milestone and the challenge could hardly be tougher, short of facing Ferencváros themselves.
What we say
Puskas Academy to Win
Based on their preseason friendlies where they suffered only one defeat Puskás Akadémia appears to be in good form heading into the new campaign. They’ve managed to keep the core of their squad intact and, as last season’s best home team, they have every reason to be confident.
For Kazincbarcikai, this debut in the top flight is a great opportunity to showcase their potential. However, facing such an experienced and well-established opponent on the road makes it unlikely they’ll avoid defeat in their first-ever NB I match.
